H:81 W:39.5 L:42.5 / SEAT H:46 cm
A set of four black lacquered tubular dining stacking chairs designed by the renowned French architect Robert Mallet Stevens, dating to 1928, though produced later. This iconic chair model is one of Mallet Stevens’ most celebrated pieces, first showcased at the Art Ménagers exhibition in 1936. Mallet Stevens, a key figure in the early French modernist movement, believed that furniture should be “functional for contemporary living, simple, and suitable for mass production.” His design for this chair is a perfect embodiment of those principles—elegantly minimalist, durable, and stackable, with no superfluous ornamentation.
Mallet Stevens (1886-1945) was a leading force in modern architecture and design, known for his work on buildings, interiors, and furniture. His influence is still felt today, and his legacy includes landmark projects like Villa Cavroix (1932), where these very chairs were used in the interior design. We currently have 20 more of these chairs available in stock. Price is for the set of 4 chairs.
