Milan-based architect Umberto Riva (b. 1928) opened his practice in 1960, developing a highly personal architectural style. As a lighting designer, he explored both poetic glass forms—like Medusa and Veronese—and modernist metal designs, such as the E63 and Telescopio. Named for its stepless, extendable arm, the Telescopio was first produced by Enzo Francesconi in Brescia before Bieffeplast acquired the rights in the early 1970s. This lamp is from the rare Francesconi edition, featuring subtly different proportions from the later Bieffeplast versions.
