Invited in 1986 by Austrian furniture producer Franz Leitner, to design an entire collection, the duo produced an array of extremely colourful pieces. One prime example is the famous ‘Donau’ (Danube) collection, to which this cabinet belongs.
Composed of a variety of furniture pieces, all were produced in varying burl woods and birds-eye maple veneer mixed with colourful lacquered wood elements.
Many of these pieces are also integrated into the stunning decor of the famed Villa Dorane, a lavish property in the South of France decorated in the mid-nineties by Ettore Sottsass for Jean Pigozzi.
This piece was acquired directly from the family members of Franz Leitner, who remain in their family properties.
