An early edition of NII NY lounge chair. A winner of several design awards and a permanent part of the collection of MoMA, the ‘NY’ chair is a highly esteemed example of modern design. Created in 1958 by Japanese designer Takeshi Nii (1920-2007), the format of the chair was inspired by foldaway director’s chairs. It was named in honor of the designer’s family name, but it also means ‘new’ in Danish – a gesture of homage to mid-century Scandinavian furniture.
The ‘Ny’ chair folds into a slender size when not required but offers a deceptively comfortable seating experience.
The surface of the chrome bases and the original canvas is marked and has faded by the light and use.
